Intensity. Fearless. The image speaks volume about this true legend of the game. Frank Hinkey is one of only three players to be named consensus first team All American four times (1891, 1892, 1893, 1894). A star at Yale when the Bulldogs were a national football powerhouse; Hinkey's aggressive style of play and knack for destroying the other team's interference earned him the nickname "The Disembodied Spirit". Its safe to assume that the stain on Hinkey's Yale vest is likely his own blood or that of an opponent.

Hinkey was one of the true stars of the early game and there are several images of him that are often reproduced including his N302 Mayo's Cut Plug card; however this is the first time that we have seen or handled this particular image of Hinkey.

The 4 1/4" x 5 7/8" albumen photo is mounted on cardboard and appears to have one time been part of a yearbook (yearbooks from this era often were composed of cabinets that were inserted between pages with a window cut for the image) or in a frame.

A must have for the vintage football collector.
