The year 1939 marked an important time in baseball history. It was the year that the National Baseball Hall of Fame was officially dedicated. At the time, only a handful of immortals had been inducted and not all were present to receive their plaques. Three of baseball's immortals who were in Cooperstown signed this First Day Cover, which also has the commemorative 3¢ stamp affixed to its upper corner. U.S. Postmaster James Farley joined legendary hall of famers Ty Cobb, Napolean (Larry) Lajoie, and Walter Johnson in signing this piece of memorabilia that was issued to commemorate all that baseball had become. Celebrating the first centennial of baseball from 1839 - 1939, this incredible piece provides a glimpse into the beloved deadball era. The obverse was also signed by veteran pitcher, Ray Collins. Also included in the lot are three Perez Steele limited edition postcards, which can be used as part of a display with the First Day Cover, should the lucky winner choose to display it. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
