The photos come from a large collection; many of which will be offered in other lots in this auction. This was written by our consignor:

"My uncle was a passionate sports fan and had a tremendous love for baseball and especially the New York Yankees. Although he was never married, he had many interest through out his life including coaching a Women’s Softball team, collecting stamps, and while he never drove or had a driver’s license he helped train Trimet bus drivers on their routes for over 20 years and received many awards and had numerous articles written about him in later life. However, as a young child the one thing I remember most was that every Saturday afternoon and evening he would work at The Oregonian which was the larger local newspaper in the sports department in Portland, OR. He would on occasion take me down to the newspaper and introduce me to the sports writers 60 years ago when I was an 8 year old child and show me the teletype and how news and photos came across “the wire”. Hundreds of photos and stories would come across but only a very few were used to go into the newspaper. The rest were discarded or saved. On occasion he would keep some of the discarded photos and created a scrapbook of some of the mid 1950 photos that he liked best. He passed away in 1999 at the age of 84 and as his only living relative the scrap book that contained many of these photos became mine. Just as a side note, I met Don Larsen at a baseball signing about 10 years ago and he signed the perfect world series game photo for me and when I showed the scrapbook to him and a local tv sportscaster they were very impressed and it brought back a lot of memories for both of them. I hope it does the same for you."
