Extremely obscure premium, issued in 1965 by Fortune Shoes of Nashville. The 9" x 11 1/2" premium is printed on thin cardboard stock and features Hall of Fame running back John Henry Johnson of the Pittsburgh Steelers. No official checklist exists; but other premiums were issued yearly from 1963 to at least until 1966. An advertisement for Fortune Shoes featuring this premium appeared in a 1965 issue of Ebony Magazine (ad not included). The premium exhibits mild border and corner wear and a small surface crease to the left of Johnson's image. The reverse is blank and has a few light pencil marks. The artwork was done by Ed Vebell; who in addition to being a noted illustrator (numerous sports works, Reader's Digest, and court illustrator during the Nuremberg War Trials) was a semifinalist in fencing during the 1952 Summer Olympics. Vebell passed away this February at the age of 96.
