In the All-America Football Conference provided legitimate competition for the NFL during it's four seasons and forced a partial merger following the 1949 campaign. During the final season of the AAFC Chicago's league entry was a new franchise, the Hornets, who replaced the dismal Rockets as the Windy City's team. Lead by Hall of Fame coach Ray Flaherty the Hornets finished at 4-8 for the season and disappeared along with the majority of the other AAFC teams.

In an effort to promote interest in the team and sell tickets the Hornets published a newsletter called the "Hornet's Hi-Lites". Offered here is volume 1 number 1 of the Hornets newsletter. This is the first example that we have ever seen of any Hornets newsletter; and with the writing on the wall for the AAFC as the 1949 season progressed possibly the only issue produced. This example is impressively clean; with only the slightest amount of wear. The four page newsletter measures 9 1/2" x 12" and has been folded horizontally (appears to be a production fold). An incredible AAFC relic!
