Vintage football program from the first (and short lived) American Football League; for a game between Red Grange's New York Football Yankees and the Pacific Coast Wildcats. The AFL was formed when Red Grange's manager (C. C. Pyle) could not negotiate the terms he wanted for Grange following the 1925 season with the Chicago Bears. The answer was to form his own team and league and compete with the NFL. While Grange and his Yankees were able to draw sizable crowds the rest of the AFL teams struggled to pay expenses, leading to the league folding after just one season. The offered program is for the first home game ever played by the Yankees (at Yankee Stadium) on October 24, 1926. The Yankees defeated the Wildcats 6 to 0. The eight page (counting the covers) program features Grange on the front cover and other well known players (Hall of Famers Mike Michalske and Ray Flaherty also played in the game) on the inside pages. The program has both a horizontal and vertical fold and some glue remnants on the back cover.
