Alfred Earle "Greasy" Neale, best known as the coach of the Eagles during the 1940's, also played football professionally (Canton Bulldogs 1917, Dayton Triangles 1918, Massillon Tigers 1919) prior to the formation of the NFL. In addition to playing football, Neale was a member of the Cincinnati Reds from 1916 to 1924. Neale was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1969.

The offered photo measures approximately 3 1/2" x 5 3/4" and appears to have once been affixed to a photo album/scrapbook. "A E Neale Canton" is written in pencil on the reverse. The image is of Neale running with the ball and an unidentified team mate in the background. We were not able to match the uniform specifically to Canton; however the image is undoubtedly an early shot of Neale. A great early football picture of a legendary coach and player.
