Produced from 1902 to 1911, the Sporting Life Newspaper issued premiums of "Celebrated Base Ball Players" known as photographic cabinets. In response for submitting a coupon, one could receive a 5-1/4 x 7-1/2 cabinet of any of a number of famed baseball players. The offered example of "Bad Bill" Dahlen, whose career is worthy of hall of fame induction in many enthusiast's opinion, is shown in uniform as the shortstop of the New York Giants. The technical grade of SGC 10 has been assigned due to two tiny pinholes at the top and bottom, but the eye appeal far exceeds this technical assessment. Under close examination at certain angles, one can see that the hairline, facial features, and portions of his uniform have been overlaid in pencil. This was commonly done during that period if an image was to be used in publication and needed to be enhanced before reproduction. In BST's opinion, this only enhances its value.
