Extremely obscure premiums, issued in 1966 by Fortune Shoes of Nashville. Both premiums are printed on thin cardboard stock and feature Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers of the Chicago Bears. The colorized premium measures approximately 9" x 11 1/2" while the black and white premium is slightly taller at 9" x 12" and has printing on the bottom attributing the image to Fortune Shoes. No official checklist exists; but other premiums were issued yearly from 1963 to at least until 1966. An ad for the Sayers premium appeared in a 1966 issue of Ebony Magazine (not included). The premiums both exhibit mild border and corner wear. The reverses are blank. The artwork was done by Ed Vebell; who in addition to being a noted illustrator (numerous sports works, Reader's Digest, and court illustrator during the Nuremberg War Trials) was a semifinalist in fencing during the 1952 Summer Olympics. Vebell passed away this February at the age of 96.
